The founding family of the Synagogue, Barros-Basto, has created a museum with books, documents, photos and unusual objects never seen by the public. Though small in size, the exhibit is so fascinating one could easily take a few hours to explore. It offers an understanding of neglected or unknown parts of Portuguese, European and Jewish history. In the library surrounding the exhibit there are still many books awaiting the assistance of knowledgeable eyes to assess their value. This will be an ongoing project for years.
