2006

Dear Andre M. Pereira,

For Jews around the world, 2006 has been unlike any year in recent memory. With tensions rising in the Middle East we must ask an important question: If the Anti-Defamation League didn't exist, who would respond to these challenges and address these threats?

We spent the year using the donations we've received to respond to many unexpected events:

Hezbollah's unprovoked, cross-border attack on Israel that sparked the war in Lebanon

Former President Jimmy Carter's book blaming Israel for the Palestinian conflict

Anti-Semitic and racist remarks made by several high-profile people in the public eye

The Holocaust Denial Conference, hosted by Iran, with many of the world's worst bigots in attendance

The fatal attack on the Jewish Federation in Seattle

Continuous anti-Israel and anti-Semitic cartoons appearing in the Arab/Muslim press

The growing threat of Islamic extremism

The election of the Hamas terrorist group to lead the Palestinian Authority

The pseudo-academic screed by professors John Mearsheimer and Steven Walt blaming the Jewish State for all that is wrong in the Middle East and claiming the "Israel Lobby" controls U.S. foreign policy

The UN's obsession with singling out Israel for criticism while ignoring the blatant human rights abuses of other member nations

The increasing challenge to the separation of church and state

This is an important time of year for us. The support ADL receives in the next few days will determine what we can and can't do in the coming year. Please help us stay strong and keep up the fight.
